Wishful Thrifting

Pardon my accessory-less outfit, my friends. I was running late to meet a friend for lunch and forgot to grab my jewelry, a belt, a watch, sunglasses, another purse to put inside of my purse, a hat, some gloves, another pair of sunglasses, lipstick, a flashlight, a travel-sized hand sanitizer, and a small dog to take with me everywhere. Tomorrow I'll be accessory loaded, promise.

I would like to welcome my newly thrifted green pencil skirt to the blog. A few weeks ago, Linda and I both spotted a girl trying on a green pencil skirt at our friend's vintage shop. We turned to each other and simultaneously said "Must. find. green. pencil. skirt. now." I don't make promises out of incomplete sentences that I can't keep, so I rushed out to my favorite thrift store and a little green pencil skirt was waiting for me. I think that I'm going to start wishing for things like 'brand new car' and trying to see if I can thrift that. I'll let you know how that goes.

Man, I Feel Like a Woman

I typically don't say much about my outfits, but this one might be one of my favorite outfits ever. I just feel like a lady in this get-up. I might even start using the words 'please' and 'thank you.' I might stop pushing children down on the streets and stealing from old people. That is how good I feel in this outfit.
I'm kidding, I don't push children or steal. At least today I don't.

(Why yes that is a Shania Twain reference in the title. You wanted that song stuck in your head all day, right? You are welcome.)

So after seeing this girl's pants redo I became a woman obsessed. I had snagged these pants for fiddy cents (that's right half a dollar. Not for a trade in of the talented rap star.) and I took them to my mom. She sewed them right up and voila! I have new blue pants that give me a fine granny booty. I am going to be a hit up in the club. Of course the only club around these parts is a bridge club. Again, I'll be a hit but probably because some old lady will recognize her pants and want them back.

I feel like it's only a matter of time before rap songs start talking about granny bottom pants. I know what America wants -- a high waisted bottom with an plastic animal print belt? Yes, please.

*also, please excuse the awkward half rolled up cuff. I didn't realize what it looked like until it was too late, meaning I had already taken my pants off.

This weekend we decided to take a road trip and be hot somewhere else in Texas. 100+ degrees is always more fun when you aren't at home, right?

Now I may be 26 years old (is that okay to share on the internet? did you want my address too?) but going home to see my parents never gets old. I never mind the 5 hour road trip to go see my momma. Plus she likes to hem crazy grandma pants I thrift so that they fit me perfectly. And she likes frozen yogurt. Those are my two requirements of a best friend: a talent for sewing and a penchant for fro-yo.

In fact, I've always been a fan of my mom. This video is just a glimpse of what my high school years may or may not have looked like, even if she didn't want to go to the prom with me.

It's usually a bit overwhelming to go back to my whole closet after I've limited myself to 30 pieces. The first thing I did was hug my shoes. I held each and every pair for 10 minutes and told them how much I missed them. No favorites here, I'm a good mother like that. All shoes are equal in this family.

Like a kid in a candy store, I went straight for one of my favorite dresses and a top I've had for a while, but haven't worn on the blog. Although I pinned up one of the layers, it normally doesn't quite cover my stomach, which I typically prefer in shirts. But I slipped it over this dress and it worked perfectly. I feel very Chuck from Pushing Daisies. I'm pretty sure that's her name -- I'll be honest, I only watched that show for the outfits. Other shows I only watch just for the outfits? Judge Judy and Swamp People.

The End

I know you aren't going to believe me but this is not my house or my balcony. Our house doesn't have a balcony, in fact I'm not even sure if we have an attic. But I am 99% sure we don't have a second floor. Of course who needs a second floor to have a balcony? I could just knock out our bedroom wall and put up some columns. And some of the huge lion statues, so people know we are high class.

Hence, why I went with a style blog instead of a decor blog.

This will round up my 30 for 30 summer remix.  (I'll try to post all 30 looks this week, promise.) I always feel like I just finished running a marathon after a 30 for 30. Although technically I've never run a marathon. I have run a full mile though. I know, you are impressed and probably thinking, 'how does this girl have time to run a whole mile once in her life and wear clothes?'

It's a gift.

Bright Idea

So I've been on an imaginary hunt for a little silk jacket like so. But since my hunt is imaginary and I don't want to put up the cash for that one, I got the bright idea today to use my oversized scarf as one. And now for what I like to call....

"This is not a DIY project!"

Since I just took this huge scarf (I mean huge, it might be a fashion blanket? I'm not sure.) and tied the corners to make a little shoulder cover/jacket thingy, I can't really call this a DIY.  It's not like I sewed the scarf together or used scissors or glue. I simply tied it.  You can, of course, do this yourself but you can do a lot of things yourself, I'm certain. Anything I can do, you can do better. That is my mantra, my friends.

No Brainer

This outfit seemed like a no brainer. Bright top + white jeans = summer outfit explosion. But then I got to my belt and shoes. I couldn't decide if the yellow was okay with the red shoes. So I considered asking a second source, my husband; he didn't even look up and said "you look great!" At that point, I knew I was alone in this choice. As you can see, I went with it but I felt a bit like Ronald McDonald, so please no fast-food clown jokes today. Okay, one clown joke is allowed. Maybe two -- if they are funny, I'll allow two.

If you are wondering how I did my hair, it's easy. You tease the cuss out of it around the crown of your head, making sure that most of your hair is breaking off in the process. (But you don't care, going prematurely bald is worth one marginally good hair day.) Then after you tease it, the rest of your hair will be sad and flat so you just put a headband on top of it and push it back to make more volume.  Then pull the rest back in a pony. I told you, easy. But I did not say without sacrifice. If you do this hair-do more than once a week, you will definitely need a wig piece in just a few years.

And on that weird note, hope your weekend is a good one.

Smitten

When I first started discovering style blogs, it was this outfit that caught my eye. Here she had taken a plain white tee and made it look incredibly styled.  As I was reading her blog, I was sitting in my cold cubicle (don't act like you don't read blogs at work too) wearing some boring office pants that I hated and all of a sudden, I felt inspired. From that day on I was smitten with style blogs.

I've always been a bit underwhelmed with the idea of a plain white tee but it happens to be one of the most versatile things you can own. Of course whenever I wear a white tee, Bryan always asks if we need to get photos before I eat. This is to combat ketchup or salsa stains, two condiments that appear at almost every meal of mine. Many an outfit picture has been ruined because I rub my grubby little hands on my shirt or somehow I end up with syrup in my hair -- and I didn't even eat pancakes that day.

I am a toddler. But more like Suri Holmes Cruise, since she's the only baby I know that wears heels.

Ball and Chain

As I was trying to figure out what to wear today, my husband casually said "I've got an outfit for you." To which I thought this meant he went out and bought me a whole new outfit. What a sweetie. After a few "You shouldn't have!" moments, I realized that he meant that he had an outfit idea for me, not an actual outfit. He gives and then he takes away.

I'm always up for a good time so I said "sure, dress me up kiddo" and he came up with this little number. I was expecting my "too short for my own good" dress but instead this outfit came together. I have to take credit for the accessories, but the rest was him. Not too bad for a man that wears Birkenstocks, eh?

If you can't tell I really like this shirt. (Okay the last one is a different shirt but close enough.) There is something about this blue that gets me. It just reels me in like an ex-boyfriend then it dumps me for a younger girl and then calls me again the next day. DRAMA.

Wow, that was weird.

Moving on. I'm loving scarves this summer which is weird because normally I have a big question mark over my head (much like an Arby's sign when I'm thinking about roast beef) when I find pretty scarf. I love pretty vintage scarves but I never quite know what to do with them. I've done the head scarf, the neck scarf. And as a belt? Don't mind if I do.

(PS -- Earrings are from Anthropologie two years ago. Dang.)

Overcast

{Blouse, Similar Striped Tee, Shorts, Heels,}

I have wrongly mistaken overcast clouds today as being cooler. Normally I wouldn't layer a shirt over a shirt in the summer, but it looked chilly outside and I'm an optimist. Turns out, the sun's heat can actually burn through those sneaky, thin clouds. But this isn't the first time I've thought "I should have listened in science class."

I had a moment today. Well, my red heels and I, we had a moment. Two years ago I would have never worn this outfit. I would have never picked up these heels and paired it with these shirts. I would have never posed in a park at lunch with husband snapping photos. All of a sudden I was overwhelmed with gratitude and I wanted to say thank you. For the last year or so, you have visited my blog for one reason or another. And because of you, I have confidence to dress in the outfits that I do, to write what I write and to generally be a very happy person. You have become friends to me, even though we've never even met. And for no other reason than that, I am SO very grateful for you.

Before this gets cheesy and I start crying alone at my desk and have to turn to food for comfort, I will end this by saying thank you for the encouragement and the love. I hope you know that you are very loved. And yes all of that was brought on by red suede heels. The world works in mysterious ways.
