RIP THE RUNWAY 2009
What an inspiring show, so much talent
I have never been to something like it.
So much hard work went into it and it
showed.
Backstage was chaotic, full of rehearsal's
hairspray,clothing,half naked models and
photographers it was great.
When it came down to the actual show
it started with a dance number which a friend
of mine Sabrina.C had put together it really
set the tone for the whole show, the mc was up
beat and super fun, the DJ was good and got
the attenders really hyped for it all!
there was even a minute of silence for the
great Michael Jackson which got me a bit
teary eyed.
Congratulations to all the designers
You all did an amazing job, I am
thankful that your all representing
Calgary with your art and fashion.

photo by Lindsey Baker Last Friday Calgary Fashion attended and held a fashion exhibition at the 5Th Factory Party presented by THE MODERN LEISURE. The night was incredible! After a few stressful but fun weeks, every one's hard work paid off and we successfully produced an effective fashion show.
Thanks to Kim, who was my trusty side-kick through-out the entire process.
I'd like to thank all the designers, Cailtlin Power, Andrea Parton, Susan Clarahan, Hannah Grant, and Tiffany Wollman. Your creations deserve to be seen!
To all the models for taking time out of their days for fittings and the grueling 'waiting around' part. You are all beautiful!
Leandra and Olga, thank you for the fierce makeup and hair.
Garret, Jordan, Steph and Kara, you are lifesavers! What would happen without you??
Thank you to Noah York for his musical contribution, and the night could not have happened without Randy Gibson and the entire MODERN LEISURE team.

So I think we are all slowly recovering from the amazing time that was had at The Modern Leisure presents Factory Party 4. It was AMAZING. So many outfits, left right and center, beautiful people and beautiful art. Whoo!!!!
Okay so it's February!!!
And what a fantastic weekend we have had to ring in the new month in Calgary. We have the sunshine and warm weather as well as The Modern Leisure. The Factory Party on Friday was...we are at a loss for words really. All we can say is if you weren't there you missed out on what is already being labeled party of the year!
I'm definately feeling 2009 will be the year of firsts and "yes we can" scenarios!!
Thank you to The Modern Leisure and friends for an amazing night and for allowing us to be a part of the event!
The CF banner has changed once again and this time will stay up for a week as part of our monthly creative.
David J was a pleasure to shoot with and has done a magnificent job with this. It was -20 outside when we shot the shoot and Victoria and Kaz were nothing short of brave as we made them pose for David's camera even with the chilling wind!

If you would like to take a closer look at what Adejoke Taiwo has to offer, check out her new website which features her label Álalá Dreamer.
The word Álalá is a noun in the native Yoruba language of Nigeria which is where the young designer's roots lay. Álalá is defined as dreamer and according to Taiwo, the collection is designed for the "optimistic woman." Her collection is full of rich colour, texture and materials from around the world.
Her main objective with the label is to create pieces that "the modern woman can wear easily."
Her mission: To take on retreats as well as mix and match her designs into everyday wardrobe while allowing the wearer to maintain individuality.

So I don't think I really have 'winter' clothing... I kind of just wear anything all year round, + layers + jackets. But, today looked so beautiful out it made me wish for spring to hurry up so I can run around without hiding behind a big ol' coat. Here are some cute looks I liked today.

I'll have more looks throughout the weeks. I got bored of changing.. so I'm back to the first look. There is just something about 80s new wave that has always appealed to me. Not only for the music, but maybe its the androgynous cuts or a punch of color in the right places. That era brought a whole new take on modern design. Forget Molly Ringwald, doesn't anyone remember Samantha Baker's bff's bedroom in 16 candles. Red and Glass shower squares part of her bedframe! Check out LELA ROSE and A.F. VANDEVORST Spring 09' collections for a similar vibe.
Vice Fashion Blog!
Photo courtesy of Viceland.Vice Magazine is probably a part of many Calgarian fashionistas and scensters in the city and the Vice culture has been widely embraced about town. A Store Called Worth gets several phone calls a week from people in search of old and new issues. I even have a calling list for when the delivery guy drops them off! Vice have thrown some of the best parties and The Dos and Don't s of the magazine are probably my favorite section. Some of them are just straight up hilarious fashion faux pas teamed with comments bound to have you rolling in laughter or most times a mouth wide open reaction rendering you speechless. For the most part Vice has been pretty good at following street fashion trends around the world. For me, the Fashion Issue is always an exciting one.
So finally it has happened. Vice are taking on fashion in their newly unveiled Fashion Blog.
In true Vice "fashion" you can expect everything far from the mundane and typical! So far from my quick and hurried browsing we can expect many introductions to some cool style bloggers, journalists and stylists around the world, unique shopping sites, outfits and much more.
