When I saw this blouse, I died a little inside. (The Rachel Zoe kind of dying, mind you. All of my organs are still working thus far.) It's not only a watercolor inspired blouse, it's a freaking piece of art. Who does that? J.Crew Outlet does, my friends. High class, low cost. That's how I roll.

But then I wore it. And I felt very...flashy? Flamboyant? Over the top? I was with my mom when I wore it and I asked "Do I look like Liberace's daughter in this top?" She took one look at me and said "No. You look like my daughter in that top. Where'd you get the shirt from? It's fabulous."

I can't fight it, flashy is just in my genes.

Is this real life?

First let me start this off by saying this doesn't really happen in real life. This referring to my pink blazer. I typically don't find something so awesome in a thrift store that I've been coveting in real life. This is not the luck I have, trust me. And if I do find it, it typically does not fit, it's too expensive or it has a huge stains on it. But this pink blazer happened, my friends. I don't know who I've made happy in thrifting karma, but it's coming full circle.

I wanted this pink blazer from Zara but just couldn't bring myself to buy it. Lo and behold some little lady had given this jacket up. Had she not given it up I'd probably wrestled her down on a street and taken it from her. I do have standards but I am not above wrestling an old lady for a fitted pink blazer.

Low standards are still standards after all.

I've decided that a blazer and a dress is my easiest go-to outfit when it's Monday and I'm tired and I can't even remember why I'm awake. Turns out that it is also Kristen Wiig's go-to outfit in 'Bridesmaids' which we saw yesterday. (Hilarious movie, go see it right this minute.) And as I was watching the screen thinking "I love her outfit" the girl next to me leans over to her friend and gingerly says "I hate how she wears those blazers! It's so annoying." But then again she also said that Don Draper was ugly, so I'm not sure about the validity of her opinions.

Today we had about 4 minutes to get about 20 photos due to high winds and a rogue skater boy/boi. Good thing I've spent years wasting time watching America's Next Top Model and copying the poses in my mirror. Who needs to read books when I've got the smize to practice? Not this girl.

I'm pretty sure that I'm having the best hair day ever. I don't think you understand -- the best hair day I've ever had, ever. There was this one day in 6th grade that could rival this 'do, but from what my memory can dig up, I think today is the winner. I know why my hair looks so good, too. It's because I keep threatening to cut it or get bangs. So listen up hair, if tomorrow doesn't look this good I'm going to go all Rihanna on you.

Over the weekend, I was in Dallas. Meaning I was at a Gap. It was a 40% off sale, I couldn't not go. That would be like someone inviting you to a wedding and not going even though you were in town. That's just mean. I'd hate to hurt Gap's feelings, so I lightly browsed for a few minutes and ended up with this dress and a pair of shorts. Shopping is at once my strength and my weakness.

Also, there was someone standing right around the corner of this wall. I'm not sure if it was more awkward for him or for us. But to make myself and my hair feel better I'm going to go with him.

I try to keep things pretty honest around here (and by 'pretty honest', I mean half truth and half lies). So I've got to be transparent with you all. This is not a skirt; no, these are culottes. (Or 'knee-breeches' according to Wikipedia.) Yes -- the shorts that wish they were a skirt. Half skirt, half shorts. Culottes: the pride of the 80's. Not a girl, not yet a woman. (Wait...that's an old Britney Spears song, how did that end up here?)

I wore these babies out on our date night last night and I don't know if the town was ready for this jelly. Just kidding, no one pays attention to me. I'm going to need something a lot more flashy than swingy shorts and red heels. I'm going to need a perm-mullet and some camo. Then I'll turn some heads.

Excuse the surprised/lost look in the first photo. Sometimes I forget where I am, why I'm posing in a parking garage and who that strange man with a camera is. Then the strange man sits down with me for an hour and explains what a "style blog" is to me and I'm okay again. This was before that conversation, so you'll have to forgive me. Also, the strange man in my husband. He's actually really nice.

I straight up stole this outfit idea from Taylor Sterling. Honestly, she didn't even put up a fight. Even more honesty -- she doesn't even know that I stole it. That's how smooth I am at internet piracy.

I am not going to lie. I'm really excited to be 2/3 of the way through. I have a confession to make: I don't really like winter all that much. That is what this 30 for 30 has made me realize. Spring, Summer, Fall you are all right in my book. Winter, you are a distant cousin I will not miss.

Some people* ask where we find all of the places to shoot our photos. Well this is behind a Big Lots. Sometimes people take smoke breaks around the corner and it's awkward. Until I tell them that I'm just snapping a few photos for my style blog. Then it gets real awkward.

*My mother. My mother is the only person who asked this, okay?

I'm really glad I put this blazer in my 30 for 30. I know they say every woman should have an LBD (little black dress) in their closet, but I say every woman should have a LBB, a little brown blazer. (Or a little brownie batter, or a little bit of booty. Depends on what mood I'm in.)  I've found a new love for this guy. (Guy meaning my blazer. He's tweed, so that mean's he's a dude.) I'm sad that it's no longer available or you could have a well-loved blazer too. Now I'm just rubbing it in.

Right now I'm jealous. Seriously, right this moment I wish I was sitting at the Lucky Conference. But I'm not. I'm sitting at my desk with my space heater and to be honest, I'm kind of sweaty. But I don't want to turn my space heater off because then I get cold. Cold sweats are the worst.

Do you see why I'm jealous? Do you see it now?

How to Wear a Skirt in 19 Degree Weather

This in fact is not a 'how to' post. I'm actually asking you guys how do I wear a skirt in the cold weather like this? I put two pairs of tights on and although that helped a little, as did the fact that I haven't shaved my legs in months, I was still cold. But seriously, how do you get through cold winters while wearing skirts? I'm going to need to know this if I have any chance of getting out of this sweaty little town. That or develop a heavy pants obsession. (Er, make that heavy obsession of pants. Heavy pants are difficult to wear.)

Tonight I had to sacrifice my blogging duties to be a wife and actual human being i.e. I went to the grocery store for the first time in two weeks. B went on a strike when I told him that Cookie Crisps Sandwiches were on the menu tonight. So instead I went to the grocery store and bought real food. He can be so picky sometimes.

So today Liz + Linda (ya'll should trademark that) deemed today "Wear your Breton Stripes Shirt" day. And then in my Quirk Swap Box was this adorable skirt. So basically what I'm saying is I didn't even have to think about getting dressed today. I just woke up and let someone else dress me. So... is this what it's like to have a personal stylist? I also haven't cleaned my house or cooked a meal in weeks. Is that what it's like to have a live-in maid and cook, except your house is clean and you don't eat cereal for dinner every night?

I wonder if Rachel Zoe would cook and clean for me. I'll look into it.

{See Jessica's take on this skirt in the summer and winter.}

Did you wear your stripes today? Submit your photo to Linda's freakin' awesome site.

Winter Blues

I took a "blah day" yesterday. Do you ever have days like that -- where your hair or your make up doesn't look right, and nothing you put on works?( If you answered no to that rhetorical question, I am slightly envious of you.) I was standing in the middle of my closet yesterday, with a boxy sweater dress on that is the least flattering thing I own but just can't part with, looking through my closet. I would pick something out, put it back and sigh. My husband walked passed the closet, took one look at me and said "are you feeling sorry for yourself?"

I ignored him. But yes. Yes, I was. A girl can have a moment right? Of course she can, as long as that moment doesn't involve the words "poor pitiful me" and "shopping spree." My moment mainly consisted of "I don't want to look cute today" and "I want some dark chocolate." So I gave myself the day off to be as blah as I possibly could -- and "the little sweater dress that couldn't" stayed on.

So to combat that feeling this morning, I decided to go back to my favorite basic pieces. Dressing in winter can easily turn drab, but I think the best part of winter is that you can layer, which creates some of the cutest outfits. So I picked out a few of my all time favorite pieces and turns out they all worked together just fine. Another blah day saved by the basics of my closet. I was this close to kissing my pencil skirt, but I didn't want to make my blazer jealous.

Apparently this is what I look like when I'm cold.

How I wanted to wear this outfit:

Alright so yes, I might be wearing the same shirt I wore yesterday. It's just so pretty and I was still feeling romantic, so I put it back on this morning. If wearing a shirt twice in one week is a crime, then lock me up. My one call will be to Loft. To bring me more shirts to wear over and over again.

I also wanted to wear just this shirt with my skirt but Texas has apparently decided that it's winter and I couldn't go without a jacket. One day the weather will do what I say and coordinate with my closet, until then I must comply.

Also, as you can tell my shirt has MAJOR static cling. Even after taping multiple dryer sheets to my body, it still clings. Seriously, nothing worked. What can I say? Cute clothes love me. I just can't keep them off of me.
