A Dollar's Worth

My husband said to me the other day "remember when you hated maxi dresses?" This just goes to prove that you can't tell your husband anything. I don't know why it took me two years and style blogging to hop on this trend. Just think, in another two years I'll realize it was never cool to tie my shirt like this. 
I really wanted someone to ask me what designer I was wearing today so that I could whisper seductively in their face "Claudia". That's the name on the tag of this fine polyester shirt which is part of the reason I bought it. The other reason was because the lady at the store forgot to price it, so when i asked how much she chuckled to herself and said "Oh, honey a dollar. No need to split hairs on this one." Which in thrift store code means she thought this shirt was worthless. Little did she know she had a Claudia on her hands. Who's laughing now, huh? 
Well I am. But only because I think I'm funny. LOLs.

A Farewell to Spring

It's getting ridiculously hot here. I didn't even check the temperature today because I could tell it was going to be in the 90s just by looking outside. (Just kidding, I checked the weather. There's no way I can tell the temperature by looking outside, you guys. I'm not a witch.) It's to the point that people look at me weird that I have a scarf around my neck in this heat. From December to March, no one cares. But once April rolls around, the scarf haters come out. And on one hand, I will agree that my neck was a little sweaty, but on the other hand, look how pretty my scarf is. 
Dresses are a staple for summertime, they are easy and effortless. And most importantly, if I'm wearing a dress, I'm not wearing pants. I'm pretty sure (like 98% certain) that I'm going to live in dresses this summer.  I will also live in a house, but that I am 100% sure of. 

Go-To Outfit

I've decided that a blazer and a dress is my easiest go-to outfit when it's Monday and I'm tired and I can't even remember why I'm awake. Turns out that it is also Kristen Wiig's go-to outfit in 'Bridesmaids' which we saw yesterday. (Hilarious movie, go see it right this minute.) And as I was watching the screen thinking "I love her outfit" the girl next to me leans over to her friend and gingerly says "I hate how she wears those blazers! It's so annoying." But then again she also said that Don Draper was ugly, so I'm not sure about the validity of her opinions.
Today we had about 4 minutes to get about 20 photos due to high winds and a rogue skater boy/boi. Good thing I've spent years wasting time watching America's Next Top Model and copying the poses in my mirror. Who needs to read books when I've got the smize to practice? Not this girl. 

Gal Friday

If a days of the week had outfits, this would definitely be Friday's outfit. Boyfriend jeans + easy tee + random vest + nice canvas bag that makes me look like I'm carrying large, important documents even though really I'm carrying a bag of Corn Nuts and a laptop. That my friend's is a Friday outfit. Except with one correction: husband jeans, not boyfriend jeans. I'm a married woman after all. 
Our plans this weekend? We've got a wedding to shoot and I've got a bed to sleep in. Other than that, my schedule is wide open...for naps. And Corn Nuts.

Olive Juice

That's right. My post title is code for "I love you." Or "I love shoes." Whatever your preference. 
I highly recommend this dress if you have $24, a smidgen of good taste and some common sense. Target is getting good with their Anthropologie knock-offs. I swear I tried on a similar dress at Anthropologie a few months back and then walked away from it as it was over my budget. Next thing you know I'm trying on this dress at Target and saving $400. Okay the Anthropologie dress wasn't really $400, but it makes my story so much better. So pretend with me, okay? 

White Picket Fence

This little house is perfect. With it's white picket fence and hundred year old tress that the sun shines perfectly through, it's a perfect little place for us.
Except we don't live here. This is what my childhood dream imagined my life to be like at the age of 25. But this is actually Lyndon B. Johnson's boyhood home that I posed in front of with people watching because we're lame. My house actually looks like the opposite of this -- our sink is full of dishes and we don't have a white picket fence. In fact, we don't even have a sidewalk. 
It should be noted that I don't have a boyhood home, which ironically enough is on my bucket list. Not sure how I'm going to get that one to happen. My childhood dream just called -- she's disappointed about the white picket fence. 
PS -- is it okay to wear stripes on stripes? Because I just did. 

DESIGNER ENVY- My soft spot for gimmicky heels

It has been awhile since I have had a full on designer shoe envy (probably due to being locked up revising in my room and spending less time on Style.com and Sea of Shoes if anything else)

But once I laid eyes on these DSqaured shoes which have a SPINE FOR THE HEEL (!!!) I fell a little bit in love.

"It's just such a genius idea!" I cried.
And then after getting a major deja vu I got thinking about the sheer amount of times I have said that after seeing a rather cool pair of heels.
After trawling the extensive albums of photos of shoes which are knacking up my computer hard drive I realised just how many gimmicky heels there are out there.
Shoe designers love a good novelty idea to get people talking and buying. (If this was a power point I would add the cheesy *KERCHING* sound effect here)
It makes sense really, I mean I know a girl can own a lot of shoes but there are only so many plain black sling-backs someone can have before they crave the crazy.

And I know I would rather have a pair of fierce, eye catching, compliment attracting, fabulous shoes than a pair of plain. fabulous shoes (remember my rant at the beige schmeige and boring ol' Celine's "Wardrobe Staples" ?)

Miu Miu SS 2010 collection

Ah the Miu Miu 2010 Spring Sumer collecion.

I will just begin by saying I loved it; it was without a doubt one of my favourite SS looks.

Miuccia Prada managed to combine innocence and raunchiness seamlessly as little cats, dogs and swallows leapt across her designs alongside nude female prints.
It was a creative mix of the sweet and the sexy with cut out panelling used against high neck lines with areoplane pointed collars. The long school girl plaits and playful chunky heels were perfect too and I love the ad campaign for the collection.

Keira Knightley looking stunning in one of the Miu Miu looks, complete with Miu Miu shoes and a Chanel bag. God, I would love to raid her wardrobe.

Alexander McQueen ‘Alien’ Shoes

My initial reaction when I saw these Alexander McQueen shoes from his SS 2010 collection was “Woah.”
Then “Omg how did he make them and the models get their feet into them?”
And finally *shrugs* "Ok, well McQueen is a genius” but never for a second did I think “I must have though shoes in my life now. I want/need/have to have them.”
Sure if I stumbled across them in a shoe shop I would try them on for a laugh but I would never ever actually buy them.
Also I have no idea how much they cost but seeing as they are designer and the hottest heels to be seen in right now I am guessing they are just a teensy bit out of my budget.
So I am wondering who is actually going to buy them?
Apart from Lady Gaga who wore them in her ‘Bad Romance’ video and Daphe Guiness who was the first celebrity to wear them on the red carpet I can’t think of anyone who would seriously buy these insane (yet undeniably brilliant) shoes.
