Wishful Thrifting

Pardon my accessory-less outfit, my friends. I was running late to meet a friend for lunch and forgot to grab my jewelry, a belt, a watch, sunglasses, another purse to put inside of my purse, a hat, some gloves, another pair of sunglasses, lipstick, a flashlight, a travel-sized hand sanitizer, and a small dog to take with me everywhere. Tomorrow I'll be accessory loaded, promise.

I would like to welcome my newly thrifted green pencil skirt to the blog. A few weeks ago, Linda and I both spotted a girl trying on a green pencil skirt at our friend's vintage shop. We turned to each other and simultaneously said "Must. find. green. pencil. skirt. now." I don't make promises out of incomplete sentences that I can't keep, so I rushed out to my favorite thrift store and a little green pencil skirt was waiting for me. I think that I'm going to start wishing for things like 'brand new car' and trying to see if I can thrift that. I'll let you know how that goes.

Do you guys remember when I said that my computer was going crazy? (I mean you should, it was only Friday's post.) Well we should all take a moment and remember my old macbook pro as she has left us for a few days to go get her hard drive fixed. Unfortunately I'm a dumb dumb and rarely back up my computer. So dear friends, don't be dumb like me, please back up your computer or you will lose your entire collection of Hall and Oates songs. Tragic.

I'm out of town this week and so all of our locations are out of whack. We couldn't find anywhere to shoot on the fly yesterday so we decided an abandoned truck would do. So instead of a cool location, I'll just distract you with my outfit. Stripes on stripes should do the trick.

When I say I depend on accessories to make an outfit work, I'm not kidding. Take this scarf for example. I would have never paired this with my emerald green dress but lo and behold in the fabric is pink and green. This in my mind says that those two colors must go together. So here we are. Hot pink + green. Who knew?

(Technically you could argue that nature presents this color combination as well.  Flowers are hot pink and green but I'm a style blogger not a botanist. Geez.)

New Favorites

I've worn this outfit pretty much every weekend of the 30 for 30 but we just took photos of it this weekend. I don't know why but I tend to repeat outfits more in the summer, I find a favorite and don't want to take it off. I think it's just the laid-back feeling of summer, or the fact that I hate doing laundry, but either way I like it.

So this post brings you a new favorite outfit AND a new favorite wall to pose by. I mean this wall is a style bloggers dream -- an upside down 8 ball and outfit complementing wall colors? I hit the jack pot on this one. Too bad I live about 400 miles away from this little gem. But if you think that's going to stop me, well then you're right. I can't drive everyday to take photos by this wall. That would get in the way of my Pinterest time.

As I was trying to figure out what to wear today, my husband casually said "I've got an outfit for you." To which I thought this meant he went out and bought me a whole new outfit. What a sweetie. After a few "You shouldn't have!" moments, I realized that he meant that he had an outfit idea for me, not an actual outfit. He gives and then he takes away.

I'm always up for a good time so I said "sure, dress me up kiddo" and he came up with this little number. I was expecting my "too short for my own good" dress but instead this outfit came together. I have to take credit for the accessories, but the rest was him. Not too bad for a man that wears Birkenstocks, eh?

I thought that I'd tone my outfit down for your computer screens today. I'm sure you don't want my outfits burned into your monitors, now do you? I didn't think you did, so neutrals it is today. Except for my lipstick. Let me keep my bright lipstick.

You know what I like best about this outfit? I didn't have to iron it. That's right out of every element, I like that no effort was put in other than putting it on. Not one thing did I have to iron. And from the way that I hang my clothes, that's impressive. (Because I don't hang up my clothes, that's why it's impressive.) I'm kidding -- I hang up every article of clothing before it hits the ground. My closet is immaculate, I cook a delicious dinner every night and every morning little birds wake me up with a song as they pull back the curtains in my room with their little beaks.

Only one of those things is a lie. I'll let you decide which one.

You likey?

I did something kind of strange today. I started a Facebook page devoted to all things Kendi Everyday because someone suggested that I make one. (I do anything someone suggests. I've got an appointment at 3:30 to go jump off a bridge.) There isn't any content on there yet, but don't worry -- the internet shrine will be built in no time. So Rome wasn't built in a day, but I'm not really going for the whole 'take-over the world' feel for my page. So if you like people to bombard your status updates all the time, then 'like' (or whatever it's called now if you are reading this in the future. Also, are we in space cars yet?) my Facebook page. I promise to post no less than 25 times a day. You want cell phone shots of what I ate for breakfast, lunch, dinner, AND 4th meal? Done, facebook-style.

On a side note, I totally swiped this outfit right from under this girl's feet. Sometimes stealing is necessary. Breaking and entering, not okay, but outfit theft is totally acceptable.

This outfit is leftover from the weekend away. I also double-dipped on this outfit, as I wore it out one night and then again the next day on our way back home. I just liked it too much to not wear it again. Nothing like second helpings on outfits. Or food-to-clothing analogies. Pass the mustard cardigan, would ya?

As you can tell, I brought my wind machine along to the shot. There's nothing like posing in a barren field with forceful winds that makes you wonder what you are doing with your life. Just kidding -- does that face up there look existential to you? I didn't think so either.

This weekend we took a little staycation in nearby Austin. [Staycation: (n.)- what results when your vacation hopes and dreams doesn't match your vacation budget.] Since we didn't want to spend our life savings on a vacation (although we thought about it more than I should admit), we decided to hang around one of our favorite cities for the weekend.

As you know, I'm the worst packer in the world but it turns out the best part about a limited wardrobe? Easy packing and a light suitcase. (40 lbs for two days is light, right?)

I had little hope for this dress when I bought it. That sounds bad but it's true. The top is a bit too drapey for what God has blessed me with and it is as sheer as the sun is bright. But it was $20 and it was olive green. Two things that I have trouble saying no to. (If it would have been handed to me by toddler twins in matching outfits, I would have bought 5 of them.) But I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I like it. I love when this happens.

I can also say the same for this belt that I purchased for $4, which was a bit of a splurge for a thrifted belt. But you guys, this belt has sequins AND velcro. If that doesn't spell out high fashion, I don't know what does.

PS -- My nail polish is Revlon Top Speed in #405 Peachy.

If a days of the week had outfits, this would definitely be Friday's outfit. Boyfriend jeans + easy tee + random vest + nice canvas bag that makes me look like I'm carrying large, important documents even though really I'm carrying a bag of Corn Nuts and a laptop. That my friend's is a Friday outfit. Except with one correction: husband jeans, not boyfriend jeans. I'm a married woman after all.

Our plans this weekend? We've got a wedding to shoot and I've got a bed to sleep in. Other than that, my schedule is wide open...for naps. And Corn Nuts.

I'm pretty sure that I'm having the best hair day ever. I don't think you understand -- the best hair day I've ever had, ever. There was this one day in 6th grade that could rival this 'do, but from what my memory can dig up, I think today is the winner. I know why my hair looks so good, too. It's because I keep threatening to cut it or get bangs. So listen up hair, if tomorrow doesn't look this good I'm going to go all Rihanna on you.

Over the weekend, I was in Dallas. Meaning I was at a Gap. It was a 40% off sale, I couldn't not go. That would be like someone inviting you to a wedding and not going even though you were in town. That's just mean. I'd hate to hurt Gap's feelings, so I lightly browsed for a few minutes and ended up with this dress and a pair of shorts. Shopping is at once my strength and my weakness.

Also, there was someone standing right around the corner of this wall. I'm not sure if it was more awkward for him or for us. But to make myself and my hair feel better I'm going to go with him.
