My sister is 4 years older than me. Which if you know how old I am and given that you are fairly good at math, I've just outted her age. A cruel thing to do to someone who bought you a very cute skirt last weekend. As her little sister I've got an uncanny ability to let her buy me clothes. It's my super power, letting others buy me things. Plus she is a very giving person. These are the reasons that we do not shop much together, as she would buy me lots of things and I would let her. Receiving free clothing is my weakness, my kryptonite.

Isn't the fabric of this skirt pretty? I love the hints of metallic thread. The best part is that it only cost (my sister) $15. It cost me nothing of course. Not that I'm rubbing that in, though. Because I'm sure that you have a loving sister too that buys you pretty skirts. And if you don't, I will share my sister.

But if you expect free clothes, she's going to need a raise.

Picks to Remix: Date Night

shopmamie_sponsorspotlight1
Since I'm all about the remixing, I thought that I'd start a new feature called Picks to Remix where -- you guessed it -- I pick out items that would fit perfectly into a remixed wardrobe. This Picks to Remix features Shop Mamie. Since the Mamie Girls are all about items under $100, I thought that I'd keep my remix picks under $100 as well. In fact, with 13 more imaginary dollars to spend, I might need to go take a second look.

In my remix, I picked:
Dakota Dotted Sweater Dress, because I have shoes that match exactly to this dress.
Chic High Waist Belt, because no remix is complete without a good belt.
Gold Beaded Cuff, because after all the accessories can make or break an outfit.

What would your remix include?

With fall officially upon us, I wanted to wear something simple, yet uber feminine today... and with the sun shining down-- for the time being at least-- this little jacket proved to be the perfect choice. It's super lightweight and obviously not equipped for chillier weather (what with half of it missing and all), so I jumped at the chance to wear it before having to transition into hard-core winter gear (and believe me, it's inevitable). I felt like a young schoolgirl again, a modern day Madeline if you will, in my little bow-adorned coat... all I need now is red hair and a yellow hat and I'm set.

Guest Post at JenLovesKev

jlk_kendi4

Hello friends! Check out my guest post over at JenLovesKev. I was so excited when Jen asked me to do an outfit post inspired by a work of art, while she is on maternity leave with her precious little newborn, Rowan.

(I bet Edward Hopper never thought that he'd show up in a fashion blog, but lo-and-behold, he did. Go see which work of art inspired my outfit today.)

adventures in thrifting...

So I know I do this a lot, but I can't help it... I just love sharing thrifting finds with you way too much! And this, let me tell you, is a good one. I found this leather clutch at a Salvation Army about a year ago, and it was love at first sight. I die for all things 80's, so naturally the allure of this bag was palpable. And just imagine my excitement in discovering that not only was this clutch amazingly rad and in perfect condition, but it was vintage Stuart Weitzman to boot! As an avid bag collector (see: hoarder), I was in blissful heaven... Who says material objects can't bring happiness?

Yesterday the weather was kind very very bad. It was raining! So I decided to wear sth. bright and I didn't find sth. cool in my wardrobe so I just took a look into my moms's. And I found sth. a very cool pullover. I think it's one of my moms fafourites and I understand why. This pullover looks so special. And I love the material it is made of. My tights and my skirt are also knitted.
So I thought everything together would look cool. And I think it does.

Jeanna brought up a good point from yesterday's post via comment. She asked is co-worker approval actually a good thing? If I worked at Lucky Magazine (hi! hire me!), yes. If I work where I work now, meh. I mean look, as I've said plenty of times before I could literally get away with anything at work. Halloween costume, jeans, heck I could wear a Snuggie and people would look at me about the same as they did today. It's actually kind of a nice relief, to not worry about what other people are going to think. Plus I think the array of colored tights from last winter broke them down. Literally -- those yellow tights could bring co-workers to their knees.

I bought this shirt on Saturday with my beloved sister and mother in tow. I was standing in line with something completely different when I spotted this shirt from across the way. I dropped what I had, said "hold my place" bolted over, grabbed my size and bought it on the spot. They of course laughed at me saying they've never seen any thing like that before. I call it instinct shopping. My mother called it "frantic."

Love makes us all a little weaker, but in the end we all turn out a little stronger

So as prommised here my outfit for today with my favorite bag! My schooldays are really long so I don't have time to go outside and take pictures.. But I think I found a nice spot where I can make pictures! Here's my outfit:

Do you think it's a good spot to take pictures?

Okay so after looking at my pictures I wish that I would have worn my clogs with this outfit. But hey -- that's why I style blog. To see if what the mirror tells me really works as an outfit. I like this but I think my clogs would have been even better. Of course I couldn't find them this morning. Why? Because they were in my car, along with jumper cables, three magazines, my coffee mug and a blanket. I'm starting to suspect that someone lives in my car. I'm not sure who it is, but they have great taste in shoes.

I tweeted this morning about my red pants, snarkily saying "let the co-worker comments begin." And wouldn't you know it -- not a single comment. I walked around to every person's office and made sure that I walked away slowly, backwards. I was sure that these pants would be perfect for a Monday morning backhanded compliment but all I got was a few smiles. So that only means one thing. This outfit is....

Apologies.

I'm so sorry! I've properly neglected the blog. I realise I don't have many bloggers, but I love to read other blogs and I dont want to lose anyone when I've just started. It's just I have just moved back to university in Liverpool and I've had no time to sit down and do a post. I have done some collages though and will put some outfits together over the next week for them and post them.

Again I'm being prrroper shit. Really sorry.

Here are some people I take inspiration from for my outfits...

For when I'm having a rare pretty day, I look to Zoey Deschanel for a lil' bit of inspiration for the cutesy look. She pulls it off perfectly well with her glossy hair and piercing blue eyes.

Fearne Cotton, epitome of kooky cool. Always looks like she's just invented a whole new style, and wears whatever she wants with a confidence I could only DREAM of having..

If I want to go for an outfit with a classic edge I love Rachel Bilson. Another cute one she sometimes plays it safe but as I said a classic.

And of course for my plus size inspiration...
The one and only Beth Ditto. I watched her recently on Fearne Cotton and... and she was amazing. So down to earth, and brilliantly dressed, even if she did have no eyebrows, which I'm not sure is a result of some condition or if she just shaves them off. But she looks brill all the same. Proper sexy lady, oooft.

Who do you take inspiration from and why? And I promise to follow this with some OOTDs (My loans come through so also more clothes woop, just pray my mother does not find out I have bought yet more clothing)

xx

last days of summer...

OK, so maybe summer is technically over, but this unseasonably warm weather called for a summer-attire throwback. This little dress has served me well, acting as a tried-and-true wardrobe staple throughout the summer. Tucked away as it has been this past brisk month, the first signs of fair weather definitely warranted its return.... and by wearing it with tights and boots, I felt less like a summer junkie in denial and more like someone who has accepted the changing season while still embracing an unexpectedly beautiful day. Add a crazy belt, and you've got yourself a pseudo-fall outfit!

What I love about nature

On Saturday my cousine and I walked to our forest. It was so much fun. We braught a running free calf to its willow. My outfit fits to the nature, I think. I didn't want to wear a skirt or sth. beeing in the forest. I especially like the pants.
But wearing these pants everybody is asking if those pants are breeches. But they aren't. They just look a bit like them.

These prints are blowing my mind... literally. The colour palette is divine, and the sharp, crisp patterns are making me want to run to the closest mall and buy up anything and everything even slightly resembling these pieces. Oh, the power of suggestion...
